Speech by the President of the Organising
Committee of the World Junior Rowing Championships
Brive-la-Gaillarde welcomes high level sport. Many
worldwide competitions have taken place in our city in recent years
: the "Tour de France", "Enduro" or "Pelote
Basque" World Championships...
In addition, the "Brive-la-Gaillarde Rugby Club"
(CABCL), European Champion in 1997, is still one of the “top
14“ clubs in France.
The hosting of this World Junior Rowing Championship
event is a huge honour and challenge for all the sporting and public
authorities which organise, encourage and fund sporting activity in
Brive-la-Gaillarde. From 1999 to 2009, the French State and local
councils of Causse Corrézien and Brive-la-Gaillarde will have
invested around 3 million euros renovating in the lake and the water
sports cent enabling the organization of almost 15 national, European
and international rowing regattas here since 1999. Everything has
been done to help the "Club des Sports Nautiques de Brive"
to prepare the best possible conditions for this meeting of champions
of the future from all over the world.
These World Championships, taking place between the
2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympics, will allow
us to share the same high regard for performance, team spirit and
respect of nature, for putting others before self and for supporting
each other in our common purpose.
All these reasons should encourage a City, a District,
a Region and a Country to take part in this event with enthusiasm
